Great question!

Tropi Co pots will often come with no holes in them. This is due to their use inside your home and on top of furniture. The fully sealed base prevents water from dripping out the bottom or overflowing from a saucer. A sealed pot can have its drawbacks, however.

Always make sure that water sitting in the pot is absorbed by your plant, keeping your plant from standing in excess water.

Our plants usually come delivered in their growers’ pot and maybe inserted inside their new decorative pot. This is not a mistake. We recommend taking your plant out of its decorative pot to water your plant until it drains through. Then place it back into its home. Watering this way will prevent standing water. If you wish to water while a plant is still in its pot or if you have planted directly in a decorative pot, make sure not to overwater. This will happen when there is more water than can be absorbed by your plant friend. Each plant will require a different watering frequency and some may be more drought tolerant or humidity loving. Make sure to check out our plant care section or your care card for watering tips for your specific plant addition.  

Possibly?That depends on the plant you want to put outside.

Many houseplants can go outside during the warm Spring and Summer months. Some can even stay outside during the winter. This will depend on your area's hardiness zone, temperature, and wind exposure.

If you do bring a plant outside for the summer, make sure you use a proper pot, water well, place it in the right light conditions, and remember to bring it back in before the weather changes too far and puts your plant in shock.
Common plants to put outside during the summer are:

• Banana Trees
• Ferns
• Spider Plants
• Tradescantia
• Palm Trees

Common plants that may be able to stay outside all year are:

• Hardy Herbs
• Hardy Ferns

Only under a cover in warmer months. Our pots often do not have holes in the bottom, meaning rainfall will quickly saturate your plant and may leave your roots sitting in too much water. We suggest using our pots under covered areas or on patio tables. The pot will allow you to water without leaking. During the winter, pots may be too thin for colder temperatures or may have seams that can be pushed apart or crack when wet and frozen. We suggest you bring these pots inside or put them away in storage until the spring. For metal, concrete, or wood, make sure your pot is dry before storing. Placing your pot in a plastic bag can be a great way to ensure they look great for their next use.  

Yes, most plants will want to be fertilized at some point. Each time you water, nutrients are carried out of the soil or are absorbed. Your fertilizer will add more nutrients to your soil and assist your plant in looking its best.

*Remember that chemical fertilizers are often very strong, and will need to be measured before use. There will be a suggested repeat period for these products written on the packaging. A natural fertilizer such as Acti-sol will be a natural slow-release fertilizer. These products are weaker, as they are made of natural ingredients, but the trade-off is you will never burn your plant and you are using products that will promote long-term health.   

Some of us like a sunny beach, some stay under an umbrella and some of us burn easily no matter how much sun we get. Your plants are just as sensitive. Each plant enjoys a different amount of light, humidity, and water. Check out our plant care section or refer to your plant care card to find the spot that your plant likes best.

 A great rule of thumb! Think of where your plant grows naturally, the jungle, the desert, a forest, then recreate those conditions it would thrive in.  

• Does your plant grow under a canopy of trees?
• Does it cling to trees?
• Does it live in a sandy area? 
• Does it live around mossy and wet soil?

This is a great way to connect with your plants and keep them happy.

That depends on the plant. Many plants grow very quickly and may need to be ‘pinched’ off to look their best. An example is Hypoestes ‘Polka Dot Plant’, which may get spindly if left alone and become thicker if pinched back. Similarly, succulents can be broken off and replanted if they grow too large.
